Air Quality update: As of Friday 10/4/2024

Maine DEP and EPA have been on site and conducted multiple air emissions tests. Maine DEP has sampled for Hazardous Air Pollutants and are awaiting the results. EPA was on site and sampled for compounds such as CO, H2S, VOCs, NH3, and NO. no air emissions were detected at concentrations of concerns at the time. Although no elevated levels were found of these compounds it is important for people with health conditions to pay attention to elevated PM2.5 levels caused from the fire. www.airnow.gov can be used as a reliable source to monitor PM2.5 levels and is updated hourly. The fire is expected to continue for the next couple of days until they can safely get heavy machinery in to begin digging into the trash pile and getting to the source of the flames. Until then please take precautions going outside if you have any health conditions that make you sensitive to air quality.
