SAFETY ALERT
Dear tribal members, with the warmer weather upon us, many in the community, especially our youth, will begin to engage in outside activities, to include using the river for canoeing, fishing, exploring and other recreational activities. With the warmer temperatures, the rising water levels from melting snow and ice breaking up in the river, the water levels and conditions, can make the river very dangerous if you were to accidently fall in the water.
The river is not only a sacred place, but a place of relaxation and enjoyment, however we ask that you be aware that it can pose a hazard during the spring season. So, we ask that family members talk with your children and explain the dangers involved if they accidently were to fall into the water and how quickly someone would be swept away by the rushing waters. It is important that if your child is going to be near the river during this transition into the spring season, we strongly encourage it be with adult supervision.
With that, we ask that you be extra cautious near “ JOE PEASE” , the BOAT LANDING and other areas of the river as the spring conditions can make the river very unpredictable.
STAY SAFE AND ENJOY THE SPRING SEASON.
